9 Fun Ideas For How To Exit Your Wedding In Style

After a long, successful, wonderful wedding day, you can plan one last fun surprise for your guests with a creative wedding exit to wrap up the celebration. Leave everyone with a final "WOW" moment when you exit our rustic wedding barn near Knoxville once the party starts winding down.

Rice was the traditional item to toss at the bride and groom as they exited the church. This act was meant to be a symbol of showering the couple with abundance and fertility. People stopped doing this due to reports about the uncooked rice being harmful to birds that ate the pieces left on the ground. The good news is, that is just a rumor and birds are not harmed this way.

Still, if you don't like the idea of rice stuck in your hair, bouquet, and folds of your beautiful bridal gown, there are plenty of creative alternatives to this tradition. Some of these ideas are perfect for your walk down the aisle after the ceremony, others are ideal for your reception exit, and some work equally well for both. Always check with your venue first to make sure the following ideas go along with their rules.

Rice Alternatives
There are a lot of great things that your wedding guests can shower you with instead of rice. Colorful rose petals will look beautiful in photos and smell wonderful as they are thrown. Confetti provides another colorful exit, and confetti poppers make it easy to pass out and toss. There are biodegradable confetti options available too that means any pieces left on the ground after cleanup will be eco-friendly.

Themed Items
This definitely makes for a very unique exit. Pull ideas either from your wedding theme, your occupations, or your favorite things. If one of you is a pilot or you will be leaving on a plane immediately after the reception, paper airplanes would be cool to have your guests fly over your heads. For big sports fans, let your guests shake pom poms in your wedding colors as you make your exit. Mini beach balls could be colorful, fun, and perfect for a summer wedding.

Ribbon Wands
Ribbon wands are an excellent way to enjoy a colorful wedding exit, but without a lot of stuff on the ground to be cleaned up once you're gone. Long, colorful streamers are fastened to the end of a stick. Small bells can also be added so there is a delicate ringing while the wands are being waved.

Bubbles
Thousands of lovely bubbles floating all around the two of you as you walk through the line of wedding guests bidding you farewell provides for some very dreamy photos. Also, since the bubbles disappear after they pop, this is another idea with no cleanup needed.

Sparklers
Sparkler exits provide amazing wedding pictures, but they can be difficult to coordinate. Make sure that you buy the extra-long sparklers so that you have plenty of time to run through the aisle before they burn out. Have a few people in charge of lighting so that it happens quickly, and have buckets of water or sand for your guests to place their used sparklers in afterward. The timing for this type of exit needs to be fairly precise, and if you really want your photographer to get the perfect shot, you may be running through more than once. (It may feel staged, but totally worth it!)

Candles
If you prefer less sparkle but still love the idea of leaving amidst a romantic glow, guests can line the aisle of your evening exit holding long taper candles. Once again, have a few people lighting them so the preparation for your exit goes quickly and smoothly.

Glow Sticks
For this, you get bright lights with absolutely no fire involved! Much safer and a lot more colorful. You can pass the glow sticks out early enough for your guests to get some dancing in with them at the reception, and then when it is time for you to make your exit, they can make a runway for you with those glow sticks flashing in the air.

Sky Lanterns
Flying paper lanterns are a popular way to create a dramatic wedding finale. They create a very ethereal ambiance, but guests will need guidance and teamwork to make them work correctly. If your venue allows these, make sure that your guests have detailed instructions on how to light them and let them go. You and your wedding party might want to do a practice run ahead of time so that you are able to assist others at the wedding.

A Stylish Ride
You don't have to have things thrown at you or run through an aisle of anything to make a memorable exit. If you have some sort of impressive transportation to whisk you away after the wedding, that can make for an incredible exit too. Rent a classic car, limousine, or maybe even a horse-drawn carriage. If you're looking for something truly unique, a hot air balloon exit would definitely be something your guests will never forget!

Making a grand exit when you leave our scenic wedding venue in Tennessee is an excellent way to end this special event, keeping the fun going until the very last moment. The natural setting at Country Jewell is a beautiful backdrop for most of the ideas above. Tell us what you have in mind, and we will do our best to make those ideas a reality.

Things to Consider When Planning a Wedding Near a Holiday

Many holidays fall on a Monday, resulting in a 3-day weekend. It can be tempting to plan your wedding for that extended weekend, especially if it is a destination wedding. Other holidays hold a sentimental meaning for some couples, so they want to host their wedding day close to that holiday.

There are a few obstacles that come with planning a wedding in Tennessee around a holiday that you are less likely to encounter if your ceremony and reception are held during a week that is holiday-free. Country Jewell has a list of some things you will want to take into consideration before deciding whether a holiday wedding is a good idea for you and your guests.

Do Guests Already Have Plans?
Save-the-Dates are generally sent out about 6 months before the wedding date, but in the case of a holiday wedding, you may want to give even more notice. People tend to make their own plans on holidays, so the more notice that you give for your wedding date, the easier it will be for your guests to work it into their plans.

Hosting a small wedding, like the kind that fits perfectly at our small wedding venue near Knoxville, can make it a little easier to coordinate with your guests, making sure that plans work best for as many of them as possible. Be aware, though, that trying to fit in both their holiday plans and your wedding may be difficult in some cases, so expect some of those guests to decline your invitation.

Is There Time For Both?
On the other hand, long holiday weekends can also make it easier for some people to get away from work, especially if they have to travel from out of town to your wedding location. It will be extremely helpful for your guests when you share as many details about the wedding weekend as you can, as early as possible.

The more they know about the timing of everything, the simpler it will be for them to work in both your wedding and their own holiday plans. This is a good factor to keep in mind during the wedding planning. You can either plan lots of activities to combine the holiday celebration with the wedding so your guests can do both at once, or you can limit the wedding activities, giving them enough time on their own to do their own thing.

Is It a High-Travel Holiday?
The holidays that people generally get out of town are the ones that hotels will be booked up further in advance than other weekends. This can also cause the price of travel, such as airfare or gas, to go up too, which means it will cost your guests more to get to your wedding. Advance notice and detailed information can help with this, but the added cost may deter some guests from attending.

Keep vendor pricing in mind for yourself too. For example, florists may cost more around Valentine's Day when they are already in high demand. DJs and bands are needed for New Year's Eve celebrations so their prices may go up around that time of year.

Each Holiday is Different
Take the particular holiday you are planning to get married near into consideration. If it's one that people may have long-standing traditions connected to, they are less likely to break that tradition to attend your wedding. Also, holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas are most often times to get together with family, so guests may be having to choose between their family and you, their friends.

The upside is that you can use some holiday traditions as inspiration for your wedding. You can use the activities, decorations, and foods surrounding it to inspire some of your wedding planning choices. For example, snowflakes and cranberry cocktails for a Christmas wedding, and a red, white, and blue color scheme with a sparkler exit for a 4th of July wedding. For New Year's Eve weddings, you will want to start everything later than usual so that the party is still going at midnight instead of leaving your guests on their own looking for a place to count down the New Year at 11 pm.

Don't Feel Guilty
Last but certainly not least, if you have your heart set on getting married on a particular holiday, do it! Just make sure that you can allow yourself to not feel guilty about any guests that are unable to attend. On the flip side of that, it is courteous to let your guests know that they should not feel any guilt in turning down your invitation either.

There are both good and bad factors surrounding the planning of a holiday wedding at our scenic wedding venue near Knoxville. You, as a couple, need to decide what is most important to you and make that work with the wedding planning you are doing. This is your special day at Country Jewell, and in the end, do what makes the two of you the happiest.

What To Expect From Your Wedding Party

The wonderful staff at our wedding venue near Knoxville, as well as the many excellent wedding professionals that we can steer you toward, are all here to help you throw the most amazing ceremony and reception possible. A few other people that can help you take care of some successful wedding planning are the members of your wedding party. They are a fantastic support team, and Country Jewell has compiled a list of the duties most often associated with each position.

Maid/Matron of Honor
This wonderful woman is the bride's "2nd-in-command." (After the groom, of course!) She is the person you can call with questions, bounce ideas off of, and spill all of your wedding planning frustrations to. This is most likely one of the people that knows you best, so she should be able to convey and carry out your wishes to others when you can't. Your maid/matron of honor is also the "leader" of the rest of your bridesmaids.

Before the wedding, she will make sure that plans are made for pre-wedding events, like a bridal shower and the bachelorette party. Her jobs on the wedding day include making sure that you have everything you need, getting you where you are supposed to be on time, holding your bouquet during the vows and photographs, and making sure your train is straightened after you come down the aisle. She may be asked to make a toast at the reception, possibly hold the groom's ring until you place it on his finger, and she will sign the marriage license as a witness. During the reception, your maid/matron of honor will be "on call" for anything that you may need.

Bridesmaids
If your maid/matron of honor cannot get to a task, these ladies are there to jump in and help out. They will assist with the planning of the bridal shower and bachelorette party, usually sharing the costs of throwing them. They are your support team before and during the ceremony, and at the reception, they can take on a hostess role and guide guests to where they need to be. This is a good group to keep the crowd entertained and excited to spend the majority of the reception out on the dance floor.

Best Man
This is the groom's "go-to guy." He can help your future husband with any wedding planning tasks he has agreed to take on. He is the head groomsman, so this is the man to make sure the rest of the groom's wedding party know what is expected of them, such as when to get fitted for suit rentals and knowing when to be where at what time. The best man is usually the one in charge of making the bachelor party happen.

The best man makes sure that the groom gets to the wedding on time. He is often asked to hold the bride's ring until the ceremony, as well as the envelope containing the officiant's fee if it has not been collected before the wedding. He is the other witness to sign your marriage license, and you may ask him to give a toast at the reception. If the men's clothing is rented, the best man can be in charge of making sure that all returns are taken care of.

Groomsmen
These gentlemen are "team groom," led by the best man. They will assist in planning the bachelor party, and they usually share the costs of throwing it. They are great for any heavy lifting that may be involved while setting up and decorating for the big day. If you need ushers and have not given anyone that title, the groomsmen can step in and take care of getting the guests seated, and they can help the bridesmaids keep everyone entertained at the reception.

You should make sure that each member of your wedding party knows what may be expected of them before they agree to be in the wedding. This includes paying for their own attire and hotel stays while they are in town, unless that will be part of your thank you gift to them. Most friends are happy to do the things listed above, plus more.

When you choose to get married at our rustic wedding venue near Knoxville, we're happy to help you with some of the preparations before and during the special day when we can. Your wedding party is there to help you with all of the rest. We see lots of successful celebrations take place here at Country Jewell, and the best ones involve a supportive team to make it all happen.

The Gorgeous Indoor & Outdoor Wedding & Event Facilities at Country Jewell

If you are looking for a beautifully scenic wedding and event venue near Knoxville, you need look no further than Country Jewell in Heiskell, Tennessee. It doesn't matter what time of year that you will be hosting your celebration, because our rustic venue is breathtaking in every season and there are plenty of spots, both indoors and out, to host your event.

Scenic Wedding Gazebo
Our timeless wedding gazebo is the perfect place to hold an outdoor ceremony. It is surrounded by lush landscapes, gorgeous mountain views, and all-around natural beauty. The vibrant colors of each season surround the gazebo, along with meandering streams and a bubbling waterfall.

Charming Wedding Chapel
The quaint wedding chapel at Country Jewell was originally an old corn crib built in 1931. We renovated it to turn it into a magical place to say "I do!" During the renovation, we were able to keep the original barn board walls. A stunning Victorian reproduction stained glass panel was added behind the altar, giving the entire chapel an especially romantic ambiance.

Standing inside the chapel is reminiscent of being in an old country church with its red oak floors and simple benches. The wedding chapel is able to accommodate up to 45 people, which is perfect for a small, intimate ceremony in front of your family and friends.

Rustic Special Event Barn
Our main special event building is obviously a barn from the outside, but don't expect a big empty space where you would keep livestock past the front doors. On the contrary, the inside will take your breath away.

The Lewis Barn was originally built in 1929. Since then it has been completely renovated, yet still retains a feeling of tradition, history, and enchantment. You can comfortably entertain up to 100 guests in this quaint reception venue. It is fully equipped with restrooms, a kitchen and serving area able to accommodate your catering needs, and an open seating area capable of a variety of table setups. The old hay loft adds a unique and fun area for entertaining your guests, as well as a wonderful spot for photographs.

Country Jewell is the ideal rustic wedding venue near Knoxville for small events of 100 or fewer guests. Words and pictures give you the initial facts you need, but to truly understand what a magical place Country Jewell is for hosting your next special celebration, you need to see it in person! Give us a call at 865-494-0552 and set up a time to pay us a visit and see everything for yourself. We believe you will love it every bit as much as we do, and we can't wait to see your happy celebration take place here!

7 Wedding Invitation Tips You Don't Want To Overlook (Part 1)

The wedding invitation isn't one of the first tasks that you will need to handle when you begin planning your ceremony and reception at our rustic wedding venue near Knoxville, but it will need to be taken care of at a specific time on your wedding planning timeline. You will want to put a little extra thought into getting your invitations just right because there are many factors that are often overlooked and not noticed until it is too late. Country Jewell has gathered a few tips for you to make sure all of your bases get covered. Today features the first 3 of 7, and we'll continue next week with the final 4.

Timing
Ordering and sending out your invitations are both very time-sensitive tasks. They will need to be ordered 4-5 months before the wedding date. This should give you plenty of time to get them all addressed at a leisurely pace. They need to be in the mail 6-8 weeks before the wedding date. This gives your guests plenty of time to respond but not too much time so that it slips their minds. (If your guests will be needing notice farther in advance, you might want to use the tips in last week's blog about Creative Save-the-Date Card Ideas.)

Proofreading
Since you'll be ordering your invitations 4-5 months out, you will, of course, need to begin deciding on a design sooner than that. Once you find a style you love and get the wording set in a way that you are happy with, you will need to double-check, and then triple-check, and then possibly check it one more time for any mistakes!

Believe it or not, sometimes it's the most obvious information, the day, date, or time, that gets left off. Having to reprint your invitations due to a simple oversight like this can double the price you end up paying and throw a huge wrench into your budgeting plan. Don't do the proofreading all on your own. Have a few different people take a look before placing your final order.

RSVP Confusion
To get a proper guest count, the RSVP information needs to be extremely clear and easy for your guests to understand. Make sure that the date you expect them returned by is obvious. You will need time to get a final headcount to your caterer, and if you are making an assigned seating chart for guests, this will also figure into how early you need to know who is coming.

If there is a choice of menu options for dinner, it needs to be included on your RSVP. It is also very important to know who each RSVP is coming from. It is very common for guests to check the "yes" or "no" box, but completely forget to put their name on the card! Numbering each RSVP discreetly in a corner or on the back can help you out in the case that this happens. If you don't want to bother with RSVPs coming through the mail, you can have guests do it online through a wedding website or request that they call you with their information instead.

Next week we'll continue this topic with 4 more things that brides and grooms easily overlook while designing and sending out their wedding invitations. You want everything that has to do with your special day to be as perfect as possible, and Country Jewell is here to help you in any way that we can.

5 Creative Save-the-Date Ideas for Your Wedding

The time between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day (aka "Engagement Season") greatly increased the number of couples that are now ready to start planning a wedding. If you want to give guests early notice about your ceremony and reception, you will need to send out Save-the-Dates. Country Jewell has a few creative ideas to impress your guests.

Postcard
A wedding invitation is the formal invite to your special day, so you don't want to spend too much of your budget on the save-the-dates. Postcards are less expensive to mail than a card with an envelope (35 cents vs. 50 cents each.) You can get creative with the front of the postcard by using a photo of the two of you, or possibly a calendar with the date cleverly shown on the front. If you are planning a destination wedding, you might want to use postcards from the city where you will be getting married. Adding a short, handwritten message on the back is a nice, personalized touch.

Magnet
Putting your save-the-date information on a magnet allows your guests to immediately stick it on the refrigerator, keeping it in plain sight so that your wedding excitement stays fresh in their minds. The front of the magnet can be done similar to the postcard ideas above, but this one will have to be put into an envelope to mail out.

Mini-Calendar
There are lots of cute min-calendars available online that can be personalized, but a plain calendar will do the trick too. When you place it into the envelope, have it open to your wedding month and either circle the date with a heart or place a heart sticker on the date. You should also include a short note or letter cluing them in to what the calendar is all about, in case they don't get the idea right away.

Photo Stickers
Most places that print photos can also put your pictures on small stickers, and there are many places online that you can order them from too. Send the stickers, with the backs still on them, attached to a paper save-the-date that instructs your guests to place the stickers on your future wedding date on their own calendar at home.

Email
Another option is to send an email save-the-date. These don't have to cost you anything but a little time to create them, or you can spend a little bit and use a website that will allow you to personalize an animated email card. It can include a link to save your wedding date directly to their online calendar plus a link to your wedding website if you will be creating one.

Information to Include
Wedding save-the-dates only need to have very basic information for your guests. They are exactly what the name implies, a notice to save the date so that they have a chance to make plans to attend. You should include:

  • Your names (obviously!)
  • Wedding date (or dates if it's an entire weekend)
  • Location (the city for sure, the venue if you already have it booked)
  • Notice that a formal invitation will follow
If you have a wedding website, this information can also be included on your save-the-dates. These should be mailed out about 6 months before the wedding to allow your guests plenty of time to make travel arrangements.

Our scenic wedding venue near Knoxville is an excellent location for a destination wedding. Country Jewell itself seems to be set apart from the rest of the world, allowing you and your guests to enjoy a completely private experience on your wedding day, yet still located in a spot that is central to many options for your guests' entertainment and lodging needs. We are less than 10 minutes off of I-75, putting us near Knoxville, Norris Lake, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. We know both you and your guests will absolutely love it here. Let us know if you'd like for us to "save the date" for your wedding!

Creative Alternatives For Your Wedding Guest Book

A wedding guest book is a nice way to keep a record of the people that were able to share your special day with you. Often, that book gets put away in a box of memories from your rustic wedding in Tennessee and rarely, if ever, gets looked through. There are lots of incredible guest book alternative ideas that use items you can put on display after the wedding to see and enjoy. Country Jewell has a few of those ideas for you in today's blog .

Quilt Squares
This can be done in a couple of different ways. You can put out a basket of square pieces of fabric for guests to sign with a fabric marker, and then after the wedding have those pieces turned into a quilt. The other option is to hang an already made quilt on the wall or set it out on a large table and let guests sign that. You can think of your wonderful friends every time you cuddle up as a couple under it!

Puzzle Pieces
Turn a pretty picture of the two of you, possibly your engagement photo, into a giant puzzle. Most stores that develop photos can do this for you. Start with all of the pieces in a bowl or jar. After guests sign the back of a piece, they can lay it out on the table. As the night progresses and everyone signs in, you will eventually have your completed puzzle put together with their help. Use a puzzle glue to hold it all together after the wedding to display it, or keep it in pieces as a fun puzzle to put together when you're feeling nostalgic. If you're not a puzzle couple, we've also seen this done with Jenga pieces.

A Bench
A wooden bench ties in nicely with a rustic wedding theme, and it is something that can be displayed in the entrance of your home, or possibly on the front porch. Let your guests pen their happy wishes for your future directly on the bench with permanent markers or paint pens, and then seal the signatures in with a clear stain.

Mementos
This takes a little creativity on your part to come up with something that matches your "couple personality." If you're big wine drinkers, you could have guests sign corks that you've collected and place them into a pretty jar or shadowbox. For couples that live near a river or stream, polished rocks that you've collected from the water can hold signatures. You could even set out a notepad for guests to write on with happy memories, wishes for your future, or even marriage advice. Have them deposit those into a container that you can open and read after the wedding, or possibly on your first anniversary.

Photo Frames
There will be lots of gorgeous photographs taken at your wedding that you will want to display afterwards. Let your guests sign a a picture frame mat or collage that you can put your photos into later. It will look wonderful on the wall of your home for all to see.

Wall Hangings
You can even turn your guests' signatures into a piece of artwork to hang on the wall. A canvas print of a bare tree is perfect for a fall wedding. Guests can put colorful fingerprints on it to resemble autumn leaves and sign next to them. Another pretty option is to put your initials and wedding date on a plain wooden wall hanging and let guests sign that.

Calendars
This is a great way to get all of your friend's birthdays and anniversaries in your datebook without having to track them down yourself. Ask everyone to fill in important dates on the calendar. While you will only be able to display this calendar for a year, it's a great way to colllect this information for future knowledge. Another option would be to have them sign an address book. Then you've also got their address so that you can send them holiday cards or future invitations.

That should be enough ideas to get your creative juices flowing. You might also find some inspiration from taking a tour of our scenic wedding venue near Knoxville. Witnessing the beauty of Country Jewell in person will put all kinds of unique and wonderful wedding ideas in your mind. Once you book your date, we can help you make those ideas a beautiful reality!
