Fun Ideas For Your Holiday Parties

Thanksgiving has come and gone again, and we all find ourselves in the midst of the excitement of the holiday season. Country Jewell realizes that means it's time to start thinking about how to entertain all of the people you'll be celebrating the holidays with this year, so our rustic event venue near Knoxville came up with a few fun holiday party ideas to help you out.

We've seen a lot of wonderful parties here at Country Jewell in addition to the gorgeous weddings we often host. Our event barn is the perfect place to entertain family and friends, and the following ideas all work beautifully when you have your party right here with us.

Festive Food & Drink
One thing that everyone always seems to remember the most from any celebration is the food. During the holidays, there are certain flavors that people most likely expect, so incorporating those can be important. These include gingerbread, peppermint, pumpkin spice, chocolate, sugar & spice... (We just realized, holidays include a lot of dessert flavors!)

Serving gingerbread cookies is not only delicious, but you can make it do double duty by letting everyone decorate gingerbread men as an activity. If your group likes a challenge, maybe you could build an entire gingerbread village together! As for dinner, buffets work well to let everyone pick and choose what they like and feel comfortable going back for seconds.

Drink stations are perfect for parties because it allows everyone to help themselves when their cup is empty. Jugs of self-serve water, tea, and punch make it easy. You might want to set up an apple cider, hot cocoa, and/or coffee station too. Set out delicious add-ins like cinnamon sticks, marshmallows, and other flavorful mix-ins so everyone can create their own special holiday drink.

Fun Party Games
Most holiday parties include gifts, and you can turn those gifts into a game with a little planning. If everyone will be bringing a present with them, ask them to wrap it but not put a name on it. Then you can have a "White Elephant Gift Exchange," which is a game where guests take turns opening presents but are allowed to steal gifts from each other. You can find rules for a variety of ways to play this at WhiteElephantRules.com

This site also has some cute "Left - Right" story poems that are another way to decide who gets which present. It involves all guests starting with a gift and sitting in a circle, but as the story is read, presents are passed either left or right when that word is read.

Another fun present-giving game is to wrap a gift in a box within multiple wrapped boxes, set a timer, and let guests take turns racing to get to the final box in the middle. When the timer goes off, the gift is passed to the next player, and the one that finally gets to the present gets to keep it. To make this even harder, you can make players wear oven mitts while they unwrap! It's quite funny to watch.

Creative Decor
You can work party favors into the decor by making personalized ornaments for each guest and using those either in the centerpiece, on a tree in the middle of the room, or as place cards at their seat. Appetizers beautifully presented on stacked platters are excellent centerpieces that also keep guests fed until dinner is served.

We are big fans of photo booths at every celebration too. Nearly everyone at your party will have a cell phone with a camera on it, and a photo spot encourages them to capture memories throughout the night to share with each other. It doesn't need to be an actual booth. All you have to do is designate a special spot with a few decorations and set out props, like chalkboard signs, hats, funny glasses, etc... and let your guests at it. When staging a holiday photo spot, don't forget the mistletoe too!

Country Jewell is the perfect place to celebrate Christmas, the New Year, and so much more!

There is room to accommodate up to 100 guests, with lots of space to roam, mingle, and plan activities on either level, upstairs and down. There is room downstairs for open seating and serving food. The upstairs loft if perfect for dancing, karaoke, games, or any other fun that you have planned for your celebration.

The entire place is surrounded by the picturesque beauty of the Smoky Mountain area. Weather permitting, there are many breathtaking spots outdoors to enjoy. If it's too cold, you can still sneak outside long enough to take a few group photos with the gorgeous scenic landscape for a backdrop.

We offer weekend and holiday rates for renting our facility, as well as a discounted rate for parties taking place Monday-Thursday. People seem to get so busy over the holidays, sometimes a weekday is the easiest time to accommodate everyone's schedules. You are welcome to provide your own food for the event, or we can discuss a catering package and have that taken care of for you.

Conveniently Located
If some of your guests will be traveling to the area from out of town, there are plenty of places for them to stay nearby. Our rustic event venue is located in Heiskell, Tennessee in Anderson County, which is less than ten minutes off of I-75. We are out of the way enough to offer you a secluded venue, yet still in close proximity to Knoxville, Norris Lake, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. As you can see from some of our photos, Santa already knows the address!

Start Making Your List
Jot down a list of all of the people you would like to celebrate with this season, check your calendar for an open date, then give our Knoxville special event venue a call. Fun Family Reunion Planning Ideas

Continuing with last week's theme of August being Family Fun Month, today we've come up with a few excellent ideas for hosting a family reunion near Knoxville. The scenic landscapes and historic buildings at Country Jewell make it the perfect place to reconnect with your extended family.

Country Jewell, Knoxville, event venue, family reunions,

If your family has grown due to marriages and births, and relatives have moved away from each other, an annual family reunion is a wonderful way to keep everyone updated, close, and in touch. Here are a few fun ideas for some things to do while you are all together.

Catch up through photographs

Even if your family makes the effort to meet up every year, a lot can change during that short time. Pictures are a great way to catch everyone up and get conversations started. Ask family members to mail photos to the person in charge of organizing the event, or sign up for a share site online.

These photos can be used to create a running slideshow at the reunion. You can also put together a scrapbook or even frame a few photographs to use as decoration around the room. Set up a photo area for everyone to take group pictures at the reunion. You could even use an instant camera to take pictures that could be displayed right away on a wall or family tree type mural.

Share "secret" family recipes

Most families have at least one dish that everyone looks forward to having when they get together. These foods are the perfect thing to feed everyone buffet-style during the reunion. If you prefer to let someone else do the cooking so that you can spend your time visiting and enjoying the day, ask family members to submit their own favorite recipes and put together a family cookbook for everybody to take back home with them.

Update your family directory

This is the very best time to make sure that everyone has each other's correct contact information. You can do it the old-fashioned way by having everybody enter their info into a guest book to be shared later. A quicker way to take care of this is to set up a computer at the reunion that everyone can simply type any updates that need to be made into. Those files can then be shared with each other digitally.

Wear name tags

Some might think that this sounds impersonal for a family gathering, but if you haven't seen someone for a year or more, they could look a lot different than you remember. This is especially true with growing children. Name tags can save everyone the awkwardness of asking "Who are you?" Go an extra step and make name tags large enough to add details like "son of...." or "married to..." to help everyone know how you are all related.

Map it out

This can be both educational and a great way to decorate an area of the event room. Put up a big map or use a globe and let everyone mark where they are now living. It can be very interesting to see exactly how far out your family tree reaches.

Designate age-appropriate areas

You will all want to be together at certain points during the day, but let's face it, young children will have a lot more fun if they have their own area full of activities and people their own age. The same goes for teenagers. They are too old to hang out at the kids' table, but too cool to be forced to converse with the grownups. The adults will probably appreciate having a corner all to themselves too.

Give out fun awards

These can always be good for a laugh if you decide to give prizes for things like "most likely to make grandma lose her temper" or "aunt with the wettest cheek kiss." If you have a competitive family, give them something to strive for at the next reunion like "visited Mom & Dad the most since the last reunion" or "has the most kids."

Host your next family reunion at Country Jewell!

You may rent our rustic event venue near Knoxville for 4 hours at a time during the week, Monday - Thursday, or in 4-6 hour blocks on weekends, Friday - Sunday, and on holidays.
