Congratulations, you're engaged! Once the initial excitement of the moment dies down enough for you to concentrate, you will probably wonder what your next steps should be. Country Jewell in Heiskell has come up with a list of the important ones for you. 

Enjoy the Moment! 
Even though you may be tempted to start shouting it from the rooftops right away, it doesn't hurt to keep this magical moment between just the two of you for a little while. Privately take this time to celebrate together before sharing the news with your family and friends. 

Get Your Nails Done
Once you start spreading the news, people are going to start asking to see your beautiful new engagement ring. Your left hand will be the center of attention, so getting a manicure will guarantee that it is looking its best. No one wants a dingy fingernail taking attention away from that brand new ring. 

Share the Good News
Don't make a post on social media to the general public before you've had a chance to share this special news with your family and closest friends. Telling them in person is best, but if that's not possible, maybe you can set up a video chat to let them know. Once all of the important people have been told, go ahead and share it with the world!

Schedule Engagement Photos
The earlier you can get these done, the better. That way you will have lots of gorgeous photos of the two of you to use for things like announcements or save-the-date cards. It's best if you find the photographer that you want to shoot your wedding first because many of them will offer engagement photos as a part of your wedding package.

10 Clever Ideas For A Football Fan's Wedding

It's not just men that love football. We've seen quite a few brides that enjoy the game every bit as much as their grooms do. With Super Bowl Sunday coming up this weekend, Country Jewell has decided to help out any engaged football fanatics with some wonderful ideas to incorporate into the wedding they will be hosting at our scenic Knoxville wedding venue.

#1 - Football Field Engagement Photos 
Your favorite team's football field would make an awesome background for your engagement photos. Go the classic route and dress as you normally would, or have some "Team Smith" (fill in your own last name there) jersey's made up in your wedding colors. Your photographer should have no trouble at all coming up with some adorable poses. 

#2 - Game Ticket Save-The-Dates
Let all of your wedding guests know to mark their calendars by sending out "tickets" to your wedding for the save-the-date announcements. The theme can even be carried over to your wedding program, where you can list your wedding party's "team lineup." 

#3 - Little Crowd PleasersThe youngest members of your wedding party can join in on the football-themed fun too. Let the ring bearer carry a football with the rings tied gracefully around it with a big ribbon. Your flower girl could drop confetti, like the kind that is shot out of cannons when a team wins a big game, or she could throw mini craft pom poms in festive colors.

#4 - Pom Pom Bouquets
A creative florist will most likely be able to make your bridal party's bouquets resemble the shape of a cheerleader's pom poms. That could make for some very "cheerful" group photographs.  

#5 - Concession Stand
Cocktail hour is the perfect time to pull out all of your favorite foods from the snack counter at the stadium. Giant pretzels, nachos, popcorn, waffle fries, and maybe even some mini chili dogs will keep the crowd happy until dinner time.

#7 - Grand Entrance
Everyone at the wedding will definitely take notice if you make your grand entrance into the reception similar to how a football team enters the field. Your wedding party can enter first and line up, making a row foryou to run down. Once they are all in place, bring out a great big Mr. & Mrs. banner for the two of you to bust through, high-fiving your wedding party as you pass them by.  

#8 - Halftime Show
The players get a break mid-game to rest. Give your wedding guests a break from the dance floor mid-reception by bringing in some added entertainment for them to enjoy. This can be as tame as a special guest singing a few songs, or a big production like a troupe of dancers performing all around the room.

#9 - Garter Pass
If you choose to do the classic bouquet toss and garter throw, let the groom play quarterback. After removing the garter, place it around a football and throw an inspired pass to the next groom-to-be. 

#10 - A Winning Exit
Guests can cheer you on into your new life as husband and wife by shaking pom poms as you make your way to the getaway car. If you trust your friends and family to not throw them at you, they could even toss mini footballs in the air as you run past. It would look amazing in the wedding photographs.

Your Wedding Save-the-Date Questions Answered

Our rustic wedding venue near Knoxville is beloved by people that live here in the area, and many travelers passing by have had the chance to fall in love with its country charm too. When that happens, some of them decide to travel back to Country Jewell for a destination wedding. If you will be hosting a wedding outside of your hometown, sending Save-the-Dates is the best way to make sure most of your guests will make the trip with you.

Why Send Save-the-Dates?
These pre-invitations allow your guests enough time to make arrangements to attend your special day. While they are not necessary for weddings taking place close to home, you are welcome to send them out in that case if you want to. 

Generally, Save-the-Dates are reserved for destination weddings, where guests will need time to make travel arrangements, or for any that will take place over a holiday or busy weekend, where you will want to get on your guests' calendars before another event. Many couples now plan things to do during the days surrounding the wedding too, making an entire weekend out of the celebration. This would be another good reason to go ahead and send out Save-the-Dates. 

When Should They Be Mailed?
Right around 6 months before the wedding date is when you should be mailing your Save-the-Dates. An exception to this is if you will be getting married out of the country. That may require a little more planning for those invited, so you may want to send those out 8-10 months before the date. 

What Should They Say?
Right now, only the basics need to be shared with everyone. More details will be included on the actual invitation, and even more can be shared on a wedding website if you choose to have one. Make sure that your Save-the-Dates DO include:

• The names of the bride & groom
• The wedding date
• The wedding location (city & state; the venue information can wait)
• The wedding website address (if applicable)
• "Formal Invitation To Follow" (Most people will realize this, but some do not and may start calling you for more details unless you use this phrase.)

Another thing that you most definitely want to include on your Save-the-Dates is a return address. That way if any don't make it to their destination, you can reach out to those people in another way or re-send it. Now, some things that you should NOT include on this correspondence are:

• Registry information
• RSVP information
• Venue (This information can wait until later, but if your venue is booked and guests can make reservations for overnight stays there, you may want to go ahead and share this with them now.) 

Who Gets Them?
Everyone that you will be inviting to your wedding should receive a Save-the-Date, even your bridal party and parents. Address them the same way that you will be addressing the invitations. This will let everyone know if they should also make travel plans for children or "plus ones" that are also invited. 

Formal or Funny?
The type of Save-the-Date that you send out is totally and completely up to you. It does not need to match your wedding invitations, but it can if you would like for it to. This is a wonderful place to add in a little bit of your personality as a couple. If you are known for your great sense of humor, inject that into the style. 




While postcards are very often used for Save-the-Date cards, you are not limited to that idea. A few fun options that we have seen are: calendar pages, magnets, photos to frame (with the couple holding a sign containing the important information), bookmarks, luggage tags, tickets... The only limit is your imagination.

10 Great Ideas For Those Leftover Mason Jars From Your Wedding

Mason jars are a very popular wedding decoration that we see often at our rustic wedding venue near Knoxville. They fit the theme beautifully, and there are lots of creative ways for them to be used. The only problem may be what in the world you are going to do with all of those mason jars after the wedding is over. Well, Country Jewell has a few ideas for you. 

As we already mentioned, we have seen the versatile mason jar used in lots of different ways at the various weddings that have taken place here. Most often they are utilized in the centerpiece somehow, usually as floral vases or candle holders. Some couples chose to use mason jars for their guests to drink out of, others put them on the buffet line to hold utensils, and a few even incorporate them as favors. 

After the wedding, unless you used them as favors, you are going to have a lot left over. Unless you happen to know another bride that would like to take them off your hands, here are some great ideas for what to do with them instead of throwing those multi-functional items away. 


1. Gift Jars

With Christmas just around the corner, you've probably seen lots of small gift sets wrapped up neatly inside of mason jars. You can make a mini-spa gift and fill it with small bottles of hand lotion, nail polish, emery boards, and other items that pamper a person. Small bottles of alcohol and a mini can of soda tucked away inside make a mini bar right in the glass you can drink it out of. Another trip around the internet can also give you tons of recipes for cookies and more where the dry ingredients are layered inside the mason jar and a recipe is attached. 

2. Snack Holders
These work great for both people snacks and pet treats. You can also layer a salad in such a way that the dressing doesn't soak everything else before you're ready to eat it at lunchtime. The lid makes it a great soup container to take to work too. 

3. Baking "Pans"
Glass can go into an oven, which means filling a mason jar with cake batter, bread dough, or muffin mix will result in fresh and hot treats straight from the oven. We have even seen some recipes that allow you to bake a wonderful single-serving pie in them. 

4. Kitchen Containers
Foods like pasta and rice often come in a bag that is not resealable. A mason jar is the perfect thing to keep your leftover dried goods in. They can also hold other cooking and baking ingredients. The lid from a plastic Parmesan cheese container from the store even fits on the top of some jars to make a nice shaker.   

5. Desk Containers
These glass jars are great containers for all sorts of household items. Either plain or decorated with a fresh coat of paint or wrapped in some type of paper, they will keep all of your stuff neatly where it belongs. Pens, pencils, scissors, and more will always be where you expect them to be.

6. Bathroom Containers
Just like on your desk, there are lots of things in the bathroom that can be kept neatly in a mason jar. Q-tips, cotton balls, makeup sponges and brushes, bath salts... all sorts of things!

7. Waterproof Containers
If you like to go camping, use one to store your matches so that they stay nice and dry. The jars could also keep the scents from some aromatic foods locked away so that animals aren't as tempted to visit and examine what you're eating. 

8. Liquid Dispensers
You can find lots of fairly easy tutorials online that instruct you on how to add a pump to the jar lid. Then you can use it as a clever dispenser for soaps, lotions, and more.

9. Herb Garden
These are great little containers to line your kitchen window with. Fill them with a bit of dirt and plant your favorite herbs so you will have fresh ones whenever you need them.  

10. Vases or Candle Holders
There is no reason why you can't use them all around the house in the same way you used them at your wedding. As an added bonus, every time that you see one in a room, it will remind you of your very special wedding day.

The Roles of Your Wedding Party

One part of planning a wedding is choosing the family and friends that you will include in your wedding party. They can be extremely helpful in taking a bit of the pressure off of the bride and groom by taking on a few of the planning tasks, as well as making sure that everything goes smoothly on the wedding day. 

Today we are highlighting a few of the traditional roles that the people in your Country Jewell wedding party will play. These are not strict, set in stone rules, but guidelines pointing towards areas where you can expect a little help. 

Bride & Groom
You two are the stars of the show! This entire day is about celebrating the love you share as you become husband and wife. All of the final decisions to be made during the wedding planning are yours, so your roles stretch far and wide. 

In relation to your wedding party, an important thing for you to do is to convey your wishes for the to the people that will be assisting you. Stay true to who you are as a couple, and do your very best to stick to the budget you have set for yourself. Oh, and above all, have fun!

Maid/Matron of Honor
This is the bride's right-hand-woman. She will be your closest backup during the planning and on the wedding day. She will be the person in charge of corralling the other bridesmaids, and also the one that needs to make sure other major events, like the bridal shower and bachelorette party, get planned. This is an excellent person to ask for opinions on the wedding fashions that you choose too.  

On the wedding day, her job is to make sure you have everything that you need, get where you are going on time, hold your bouquet during the ceremony, and make sure your train is straightened and beautiful after you come down the aisle. The maid/matron of honor will also sign the marriage license as a witness, and may be asked to make a toast to the couple.
   
Bridesmaids
These girls also have your back and can help to take care of the things that your maid/matron of honor doesn't get to. They will help with the planning and executing of wedding-related parties. At the reception, they can take on a hostess role and offer answers and assistance to guests. They are also great for making sure the dance floor stays full.  

Best Man
This is the groom's right-hand-man. He needs to make sure that the groom is ready for the big day, and help him to get to the ceremony on time. The best man  is in charge of keeping the groomsmen in line, and is often entrusted with holding on to couple's wedding rings until the officiant asks for them. 

He will be the second witness to sign the marriage license, offer a toast at the reception, and is generally the one to plan the groom's bachelor party. If the men's formalwear needs to be returned after the wedding, he is a good person to be in charge of this.   

Groomsmen
These fellows are there to offer the groom any support he may need and assist the best man. They usually don't need much coaxing to help out with planning the bachelor party, and at the reception they can help the bridesmaids keep the wedding guests entertained and having fun. If you do not have people assigned in the role of usher, the groomsmen can step in and take care of that duty.

Ring Bearer & Flower Girl
You can have any person of any age take over these duties, but it is usually left to some adorable young children. They should attend the wedding rehearsal to get used to the rest of the wedding party, which will hopefully put them at ease enough to perform their duties on the actual day. 

Ushers
These helpers need to dress the part and show up early enough before the ceremony so that they will be there to guide all of the wedding guests to their seats. They can also point out the location of the restrooms, and help to let guests know where to go for the reception. Ushers also release the guests from their seats in an orderly fashion after the new Mr. & Mrs. leave the ceremony.

Letting everyone in your wedding party know what is expected of them before they agree to join you is the best way to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. If they are willing and able to help with other tasks, like picking up rental items or putting up decorations, accept their assistance. The more you allow them to do, the less stress you will have to endure.

Thoughtful Ways to Say Thank You to Your Wedding Party

The people that you have chosen to be in your wedding party are the ones that you can lean on to make the day a success. The close friends that are there for you to make sure everything runs the way you want it to. In our opinion, and we bet you'll agree, the members of your wedding party deserve an extra special thank you. Country Jewell has a few ideas on ways that you can show your gratitude. 

Something Personal
First and foremost, nothing is more personal than a handwritten thank you note. These aren't just for the material gifts that you receive at the wedding, but for gifts of time too. An email, text, or pre-written card just doesn't do the trick. Put pen to paper and say something from your heart meant specifically for them.

Rather than finding one gift to give to all of your bridesmaids and groomsmen, pick out a present that pertains to something that they personally love or have an interest in. Use their job, hobbies, and favorite things for inspiration. The extra thought that you put into it will mean a lot to them.

Something Useful
Since these people have been so very useful to you over the course of planning your wedding, say thank you with something that they will be useful to them in the future. Every time that they use the item, they will be able to think fondly back to your wedding day. This can be in the form of beautiful jewelry for the ladies to wear at the wedding and beyond, or a money clip or watch for the gentlemen. A personalized tote bag can come in handy many times over. 8 Great Ways to Show Dad He's Special at Your Wedding

We talked about a few special ways to honor your mother last month around Mother's Day, and now it's time to talk about Daddy. The man walking you down the aisle at our Knoxville rustic wedding venue is one of the main V.I.P.s for the day, as he most likely has been for you whole life. Country Jewell has come up with a few ways for you to let this man know just how special he is during your wedding.  

First look... with Dad

Your future husband isn't the only man that will get emotional when he sees you all dressed up, ready to walk down the aisle. Have the photographer capture that special moment when your father first sees you on your wedding day. 

Something blue

Dad is the perfect person to get your something blue from. One of the best idea's that we have seen is cutting a heart from an old blue shirt of his, then having it sewn into the lining of your wedding dress. 

Something borrowed

Going with the same theme, take your something borrowed from your dad. Borrow a handkerchief to carry with your bouquet to catch any happy tears from the day. The groom could also borrow his dad's favorite watch to make sure he gets to the ceremony on time. 

Wear an item from his wedding

If either the father of the bride or the father of the groom still have the cufflinks from their own wedding day, this would be perfect for the groom to wear at the wedding. Make sure that you save the cufflinks worn by your groom for your future children to use at their wedding!

Surprise Dad

Pick out a gift that is sentimental to you and your father, and surprise him by having it waiting at his seat after he walks you down the aisle and hands you over to your new husband. The groom could also have something special waiting at his father's spot too. It's not just the moms that appreciate those gestures. 

Jazz up that first dance

When it's time for the father-daughter dance at the reception, surprise all of your guests by planning ahead and choreographing something unique with your father. If he's got a good sense of humor, this is a great place to show that off. 

Mark his reception seat

These are great ideas for all of the parents. Many couples have special signs made up to mark the chairs of the bride and groom. Have these done for your moms and dads too. Dad will be proud to take his place in a seat marked "Father of the Bride." Another wonderful way to mark a parents' place setting is by using a photo of the two of you from your childhood. 

For dads that can't be there

If your father has passed away before you are getting married, you can still find many ways to honor his memory. We have seen people place a photograph of the deceased parent at the seat where they would have been sitting. You can also get more personal, and hang his favorite ball cap that he never took off at his spot, or something similar that is a symbol of your memories of him. 

Dads are just about as excited as you on your wedding day. Any time a parent gets to see their child happy is an amazing moment for them. Father's Day is set aside on the calendar each year to honor Dad. How to Pack a Wedding Day Survival Kit

No matter how well you plan for your rustic Knoxville wedding, once that day comes, anything can happen. To avoid unpleasant surprises, one of your pre-planning tasks should be to put together a wedding day survival kit. A little preparation can go a long way, and one of the items in this handy little kit may end up saving the day.

Each brides's kit may be a bit different, depending on your own personal needs. Here Country Jewell has come up with a basic list of some things that could very well come in handy for one reason or another. Most are items that you probably have around the house already. 

• Hand lotion: A dab of lotion right before heading down the aisle will help your new wedding ring to slide on smoothly. 
• Moist towelettes
• Hand sanitizer
• Sun block & bug spray: A must for outdoor ceremonies.
• Feminine hygiene products: Just in case you or one of your girls needs them. Better safe than sorry!
• First aid kit

• Basic medicines: pain reliever, allergy medicine, antacid...
• Gum & mints
• Bobby pins: Make sure there is the right color for every hair color in your wedding party.
• Clear nail polish: This can stop runs in hosiery, fix chipped nails, and can even be a temporary fix for keeping buttons on that are about to fall off. 
• Nail polish that matches your manicure: You may need a touch-up.
• Nail clippers & file
• Extra earring backs: In a pinch, you can also use a pencil eraser, piece of cork, aluminum foil, or even chewing gum.  
• Mirror
• Facial blotting paper: This keeps the shine off your skin without removing your makeup. 

• Kleenex
• Stain Removal Pen or Wipes
• Baby Powder: This can help remove some dress stains & keep them from spreading
• White chalk: It can work like baby powder or even cover up a small stain.
• White cotton towels or cloths: Use these to dab, never rub, stains or spills on a white dress. 
• Cotton balls & cotton swabs: You can also dab dress stains with these, and they come in handy while getting ready. 
• Tape: Double-sided, masking, or duct tape - these are a quick fix for a broken hem if there is no time left to sew it. 
• Super glue: This can work for hems just like the tape, and it can hold on a loose button. 
• Small sewing kit: It should contain matching thread for your dress color, the bridesmaids' dresses, and the men's suits. 
• Lighter &/or matches: Necessary for lighting candles, and the flame can fix a fraying hem. 
• Safety Pins: Useful for fashion emergencies and also good to have in case any boutonniere pins are missing or get too bent to work.
• Scissors
• Lint brush

• Snacks: Many brides are so excited, and busy, that they forget to eat.  Have granola bars or something similar handy for an easy, fast snack. 
• Bottled water: Staying hydrated throughout the day will make you feel a lot better and more energized.
• Straws: Drinking out of a straw is the best way to keep your lipstick from smearing. 
• Chargers: Pack all that may be needed during the day: cell phone, camera, video camera, etc...
• Extra batteries: Keep track of anything needing batteries on the wedding day, and have extra ones of every size needed. 
• Pens and paper
• Contact information: Have names & numbers for important wedding contacts and vendors. It is wise to have a couple of copies of this list. 

It's quite possible that you won't need anything in your wedding day survival kit, but you will be very glad that it's there if you do need it. We don't want anything to spoil any part of your beautiful day at our Knoxville wedding venue. It takes very little effort to gather these items together, and believe us, it is well worth the time.
