6. Hanging Flowers & Wreaths
Flowers are present at nearly every wedding (although there are many lovely alternatives to florals that can be implemented too) and florists are always looking for new and unique ways to display them. In 2018, expect to be looking up at wedding decor with hanging flowers and suspended arrangements. Many couples are also expected to decorate with lovely wedding wreaths throughout the venue.
7. Transparent Elements
We talked about popular colors last week, such as metallic silvers, chromes, and coppers, plus Pantone's color of the year - Ultra Violet. A lack of color will also be present in the form of transparent elements. Expect to see the use of lots of windows, possibly for wedding signage, and also many glass items. These add to the beauty and depth of the overall look of the wedding without drawing attention away from your wedding colors and floral focal points. There are also transparent papers available that you can print programs, menus, and even invitations on.
8. Creative Food & Desserts
Dessert stations with unique and varied sweets are still a popular wedding plan, but bigger wedding cakes are slowly making a comeback. It's easy to have both. Just opt for a smaller version of the classic tiered wedding cake and surround it with your other treats, such as cupcakes, pies, cheesecakes, donuts, cookies, etc... You can even serve wedding cake for dessert, then save an extra sweet treat to serve as a snack later in the evening.
9. Formal, but not stuffy
Many brides and grooms are leaning toward a more traditional, slightly formal ceremony and reception, but not completely. You can blend classic wedding elements with more modern ideas and easily fuse the two together. If you want the guests to dress up a bit, make sure to let them know in the invitation or on your wedding website, and you can even invite them to bring a change of clothes for the reception if you like that idea. It's very possible to add elegance to your wedding but still have some laid-back fun.
10. Guest Interaction
Creating an interactive and fun experience for wedding guests is a priority for lots of couples. Photo "booths" are still a popular reception activity but expect to see more backdrops rather than actual booths. Games can be planned for guests to join in on, and interactive food stations are a great way to keep things interesting for everyone. Extending the experience and setting up room blocks for the entire weekend with group activities instead of just a one-day party will be a popular trend too.
